Project Overview:
Following a presentation to the BBIS Board, Excellence in Business was commissioned to develop a strategic business review and improvement strategy based on the EFQM Excellence Model. The work involved designing and implementing an internal review process for each of BBIS's Local Authority and Highways Agency Contracts; training internal assessors; and leading the assessment teams. After each year's round of assessments, we jointly evaluated the impact of the process on the business and refined it accordingly.
Having developed significant capacity and expertise within the business, our on-going support is in the form of strategic advice; improvement planning; mentoring support to the assessment teams; and impact evaluation.
Project Outcomes/Impact:
- Over 500 staff from across the BBIS business have been involved in contributing to the company's improvement activity;
- Greater consistency of operational practice and improved sharing of good practice between Contracts;
- Improved bid-writing capacity as a result of greater knowledge and information about the business's successes and improvements enabling stronger tenders to be put together;
- BBIS was extremely well prepared for and subsequently received the highest CAT score in 2007 of all the infrastructure service suppliers to the Highways Agency.
- Introduction of a 'Balanced Scorecard' and performance management system;
- Staff satisfaction with their input to and involvement in the improvement process is high;
- A new company wide knowledge sharing process in place across HA and LA business.
