Comprehensive Area Assessment: Final assessment framework and methodology unveiled

16.02.09

After many months of debate, consultation and trials, the Audit Commission and five partner inspectorates have in the last week confirmed their plans for the radical shake-up of the way public services in England are inspected and reported on.

The details of the new framework and methodology, which replaces CPA from 1 April, are set out in the publication 'Comprehensive Area Assessment (CAA): Framework document'.

The framework sets out the six independent inspectorates, which also includes the new Care Quality Commission, HM Inspectorates of Constabulary, Prisons and Probation, and Ofsted, will be working to gather information and make joint assessments about public services in every area of England.

The assessments will describe how the health, wealth, well-being and safety of people in every area in the country is progressing against agreed priorities set out in the Local Area Agreement, highlighting particular successes, and flagging up where things are not on track.

A copy of the new CAA framework can be downloaded from the articles section of our website.
