Colin Savage

Associate Consultant

Colin has an impressive career in local government having been a chief officer for 22 years. His background and primary qualification is as a chartered architect. Following a brief spell in private practice he commenced work with Walsall Metropolitan Borough where he became Director of Property Services in 1982, before joining Staffordshire County Council as County Architect in 1987. Colin then became Director of Property Services in 1990, Director of Corporate Services in 1997 and Director of Corporate and Cultural Services in 1998. His final year at Staffordshire County Council before leaving in 2004 was spent as Corporate Director (Change). 

Colin has been in management consultancy for five years. His particular strengths lie in his ability to diagnosis potential improvements in organisations, as well as implementing and facilitating innovative business strategies and solutions. As a longstanding chief officer, Colin has a wealth of experience of working with, briefing and presenting to elected members and Senior Management.  However, he has also been involved with a number of projects which has involved working at all levels within client organisations.

Colin has provided extensive support to clients across the public sector to work more effectively in partnership and prepare for external review. He also has an impressive reputation for his work in supporting clients through significant cultural and organisational change, whether in a mentoring, coaching or hands-on capacity.

Clients regularly praise Colin's challenging and stretching approach to helping them identify and address the real issues facing them, and then deliver real and tangible impact on their performance.  

Colin has extensive knowledge and understanding of the Social Care and Health modernisation agenda.  He is chair of the local Carer's Forum; County Carer's Board; County Learning Disability Partnership; and a member of a Locality Board.

During his spare time, his interests include fly fishing, shooting, walking, reading and the theatre.
