Richard Roddie
Partner
Richard is a founding Partner of Excellence in Business with 20 years management and consultancy experience. Prior to establishing Excellence in Business in 1992, Richard was a senior consultant for Price Waterhouse. He works throughout the UK, leading our Public Sector and Leadership & People Management Teams. He is a very experienced consultant, facilitator, trainer and personal advisor with experience of working at senior management level through to front line staff.
Richard has extensive experience of supporting local authorities to respond to central government initiatives such as Best Value, CPA and the Comprehensive Area Assessment. He has also created a wide range of bespoke training and management development programmes to help officers and members at all stages as they strive to improve their personal effectiveness and deliver more efficient and customer focused services to local people.

Richard has worked with over 50 different councils, a number of Fire & Rescue Services and Police Authorities, Connexions Services, LSCs and Business Links, NHS Trusts and central government departments delivering a variety of projects and training courses to support organisational improvement. All of this work has involved supporting a significant number of officers, elected members and staff within these organisations.
With an extensive knowledge and practical understanding of the EFQM Excellence Model, Richard has worked with many organisations (private & public sector) to support the introduction and use of the model as an improvement/change management tool. Acting as a Senior Assessor for both the British Quality Foundation and Midlands Excellence, Richard has also led several successful Excellence Model Award assessments.
Over the last five years, Richard has also been working with an increasing number of private sector 'blue-chip' companies, predominantly infrastructure and maintenance contractors and consultant engineers, to improve their organisational capacity and capability for delivering term maintenance contracts to local authorities and the Highways Agency. This involves a range of support including leading self-assessment activity and improvement projects; process re-engineering to improve efficiency and effectiveness; training managers; bid writing; tender evaluation; and 'reality' checks.
Richard is one of the country's leading and most experienced Peer Review Managers having carried out more than 200 reviews since 1999. Consequently, during 2005/2006, Richard was asked to lead a major project in partnership with four Regional Employer Organisations, which resulted in the development of a unique People Management Peer Review 'Benchmark' which the IDeA were subsequently able to adopt through a strategic partnership with EiB.
Outside of work, Richard has a busy family life with two teenage children. He tries to stay in shape through regular visits to the gym as well as playing tennis, squash and golf. He enjoys walking, skiing and sailing and while a keen traveller, he spends a good proportion of his leave in France, enjoying the good food, wine and the opportunity to speak French.
