Ideal candidates will need to satisfy the following high level criteria and be able to demonstrate the competencies outlined in the Competency Profile:

  • Be educated to degree level;
  • Have at least 5 years management experience;
  • Experienced in the design and management of change and improvement projects;
  • Be able to demonstrate the results and achievements of their work in the last 3 years – for example, new business generated, colleague or client satisfaction, business results etc.
  • Have a background in and/or extensive knowledge of Local Authorities and the wider Public Sector;
  • Previous consultancy experience (internal or external);
  • Proven ability to ‘sell’ and gain commitment to new ideas/ways of working;
  • Track record of and/or confidence in ability to generate new and repeat business;
  • Be able to work from home; but prepared and able to work away from home at client premises across the UK, as appropriate.

Role Profile.

The role of a principal consultant within Excellence in Business will involve:

  • Delivering a range of training and consultancy projects, based on experience, working with and independently of colleagues, as required by the firm;
  • Identifying opportunities to win new work/generate repeat business and converting these with, and independently of, support from colleagues;
  • Generating sufficient work to maintain required personal utilisation levels as well as providing work for other consultants/associates;
  • Developing innovative and creative improvements to our consultancy services and training materials;
  • Taking responsibility for growing the business in line with personal/company objectives;
  • Working the necessary number of hours/days per week to ensure you meet all client and non-client deadlines for chargeable and non-chargeable work;
  • Proactively bringing any problems and/or client concerns over work delivered to the attention of the appropriate partner in order to ensure their timely resolution;
  • Meeting with colleagues, travelling and staying over if required, to discuss client projects and new opportunities;
  • Attending partner meetings, as requested, to provide input to the strategic management and growth of the company;
  • Identifying and discussing appropriate training and development needs with a Partner prior to taking action;
  • Maintaining accurate, up-to-date and auditable client and computer based files;
  • Regularly seeking client feedback on their satisfaction with EiB consultancy and training services;
  • Submitting accurate time and expense sheets, according to current guidelines, to enable client invoices to be issued and consultant expenses to be re-paid;
  • Sharing knowledge, learning experiences and other relevant information and good practice between fellow consultants and the office, as appropriate;
  • Maximising income through the effective management of associated client and any non-client related expenses;
  • Raising any concerns regarding employment and well being within the company with the partner you report to;
  • Seeking partner approval prior to submitting a proposal which commits the firm’s people at a certain fee rate, and making any capital investments or expenditure.
