Course Aims:
This practical and interactive 2-day programme provides a foundation in the basic elements of employment law. It enables participants to handle the common employment issues that arise on a day-to-day basis, in a positive and professional manner.
Learning Outcomes:
At the end of the workshop, delegates will have the knowledge to:
- Understand the legal principles that apply to the relationship between the employer and the employee;
- Provide and follow basic advice on resolving employment issues, while following best practice in the workplace.

Creating the Employment Relationship
- The recruitment process, including advertising; application forms; interviews;
- The contract - offer, terms, clauses;
- References - what to be aware of;
- Inductions;
- Medicals;
- Employment status/self employed,part time ,fixed term contracts.
Maintaining the Employment Relationship
- Implementing good working practices dealing with discrimination issues, including race/sex discrimination, direct and indirect, victimisation, bullying and harassment; disability discrimination, religion or belief, sexual orientation, age discrimination; and remedies for discrimination
- Maternity, paternity and adoption rights and parental leave
- Request for flexible working
- Work and Families Act 2006
- Statutory disciplinary and grievance processes
- A practical approach to difficult issues, including absenteeism; poor performance; email and Internet abuse; misconduct in and outside work; stress; and acting fairly and reasonably
Terminating the Employment Relationship
- Wrongful dismissal and unfair dismissal;
- Resignations and Redundancy.
